Video Games - A Big Rip Off?

I was thinking about this the other day and I asked myself why do I like video games? And the only thing I came up with is they are fun to play. I will be spending over $700 on GameCube gear on launch day and for what? Fun? Can you justify spending $100 on a game not knowing how long until you lose interest in it. Or even a GameCube, $399, I have only heard things about it, I haven't even played it and probably wont until May 17th. What if I don't like it? Sure I can take it back to the shop and tell them some B.S story how it doesn't work and get my money back but what about those years for waiting? All those hours spent looking up GameCube news on the Internet each day. Thinking about the GameCube 24/7 (well maybe not that much). All that down the drain because I don't like the GameCube (I seriously doubt this though but it could happen). All the money spent on it.

Eventually the GameCube will be like the NES, SNES, N64. Pretty much dead. Some people would still play the games but when you have a NES and a GameCube sitting side by side which one are you going to play? You will probably pack up your old consoles and stash them under the bed or in the closet…a sad end to the thousands of dollars (If you buy a lot of games) you spent on the thing. Or you can trade it in and get no more than 50% back of what you paid for it. But yet the video game industry is huge. Why do people get so attracted to consoles? They offer games (And maybe some other features, DVD ECT). Im not trying to turn you away from video games but just give this a thought, are you really getting enough out of a video game/games to spend loads of money on them? I don't think I do, but ill be there May 17th , lining up outside my local Domayne store (Where I pre-ordered mine, if you do you, you can get 50% off your first GameCube game purchase) and when those doors finally open I will rush in grab the little purple wonder known as the GameCube, take it home and play it to death not caring how much money I have spent on it, and in a few years more time, when a new console comes out what I like, I will repeat the "video games" cycle all over again.
